ONTRACK TO BEGIN MAKING DATA RECOVERY HOUSE CALLSWhen you’re sick, you’re not likely to find a doctor who still makes house calls. But when your computer data is sick, ONTRACK Data International, Inc. (Nasdaq: ONDI) will be offering a cure at your home or office. From November 17-21 during the COMDEX Las Vegas trade show, Ontrack® Data International will be previewing its Remote Data Recovery services that are scheduled for a January 1998 release. This patent-pending Remote Data Recovery technology gives Ontrack engineers the ability to safely recover data directly on a customer’s system through modem connection and remote recovery tools, eliminating costly and unnecessary downtime.
“Almost everyone knows the horrifying feeling that accompanies losing an important document or file on their computer,” said Michael Rogers, CEO and chairman of Ontrack. “Ontrack Remote Data Recovery services will save DOS, Windows, Windows 95, and frequently Windows NT and OS/2 users the feelings of anxiety and frustration that their document is gone forever, often solving data loss problems in a matter of hours. Certain data loss problems, including those caused by viruses, corrupted file structures, and software malfunctions, can be solved remotely.”
Ontrack Data Advisor™ software, the vehicle for Remote Data Recovery. The recently released Ontrack Data Advisor software version 3 provides the communications link that makes Remote Data Recovery services possible. Data Advisor software is an easy-to-use diagnostic tool that helps computer users quickly determine what is preventing them from accessing data on their desktop, laptop or notebook computer and provides recommendations on how they can recover it.
In the event of data loss, Ontrack Data Advisor software runs a series of tests analyzing file systems and structures, system memory, and the read ability of a customer’s hard drive. Data Advisor version 3, an upgrade from the original version released in May, adds reporting capabilities to the software’s diagnostic tools, offering an optional modem connection for North American users that automatically uploads diagnostic results to an Ontrack facility. Ontrack engineers can then give additional details and recommendations for recovering the data.
“By uploading the results report right to Ontrack, our engineers have a head start in solving data recovery problems, quickly providing users with additional details and recommendations for recovering their lost data, whether the solution is through traditional Ontrack services or Remote Data Recovery,” Rogers said.
Free copies of Ontrack Data Advisor software will be distributed during COMDEX in the Ontrack booth, which is located in the lower level of the Sands Convention Center, Booth Number 7716. The software is also available for free download on the Ontrack Web site at www.ontrack.com or by calling Ontrack at 1-800-778-7352.
Ontrack will be providing free data recovery services to COMDEX attendees who suffer data loss on their laptops during the show. Interested users should visit the Ontrack booth for more information.
