ONTRACK Data International, Inc., (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, announced today availability of Remote Data Recovery™ services over the Internet for Windows 95, 98 and NT operating systems. The new service allows computer users to recover software-related data loss situations quickly, securely and cost-effectively over the Internet (
“Previously, Ontrack introduced Remote Data Recovery services through the use of a modem connection to our recovery labs,” said Mike Rogers, CEO of Ontrack. “We have now expanded this service to take advantage of the easy access to the Internet. The new Internet-based Remote Data Recovery dramatically expands accessibility for users around the world and provides faster recovery times using today's high-speed Internet connections.”
Remote Data Recovery is an exclusive patent-pending service that enables Ontrack engineers to quickly recover a company's data via the Internet or modem without the hassle of removing the hard drive from the desktop, laptop or server. Within 60-90 minutes of being notified of a data loss, Ontrack engineers can identify the problem and give users an estimated cost to retrieve the missing data. Data is then recovered within a matter of hours, while a typical in-lab data recovery can take 2-5 days. All data transferred over the Internet is encrypted, which provides security to the user.
“Remote Data Recovery is available to users whether they are in their office, hotel room or on an airplane anywhere in the world,” Rogers said. “Remote Data Recovery over the Internet can be a real life-saver for users who have lost mission-critical information and have Internet access via an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Local Area Network (LAN).”
Ontrack currently provides Remote Data Recovery service for DOS, Windows 3.x, 95, 98, NT (workstation and server) and NetWare, and will be expanding its remote capabilities to other operating systems throughout the remainder of 1999 and early 2000. Remote Data Recovery services are available from Ontrack labs around the world.
To obtain Remote Data Recovery service, users can contact Ontrack 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-872-2599. Once a call is made, Ontrack representatives work with users to determine if it is a remote or in-lab data recovery situation. Users must also have Internet access or a modem and no obvious hardware problems with their computer to download the Remote Data Recovery communications software.
Diagnostic fees for standard Remote Data Recovery services are $100 for desktop operating systems. Actual data recovery costs will vary depending on the individual data loss situation, including those caused by deleted files, viruses, corrupted file structures and software malfunctions.
